"My little dog---a heartbeat at my feet." Edith Wharton Our lives will forever be enriched because of the dachsies that touched our hearts in rescue, but we know the real healing does not begin until they leave our care. We encourage, we celebrate, we do everything we can to give them the skills they need to put their best paw forward as they wait for their forever families to find them . . . and then the time comes to say goodbye. Often we shed tears. We remember when they came in, how far they’ve come, the hiccups along the way – we laugh, we cry – and then we always say a little prayer as we send them on their way. We hope they find the confidence to keep that best paw forward, because we know, when they do, they will truly flourish. It is then, they will heal; it is then, they will find peace. If you have adopted one of our adorable dachsies, and would like to contribute a Success Story, please e-mail dakotadachshund@hotmail.com, and we will add it to the website. Be sure to send us a current picture. We do love pictures!!! Please visit our Success Stories page to read all of our stories!
Katie Dear Foster Moms, I hope you remember me, Katie. I tried calling you, but I didn't know your telephone number. I found your e-mail addresses instead. I am always on my new mom's desk bothering her when I want attention, which is pretty much everyday. I know it has been a little while since I have written you. I am sorry. I have been so very busy adjusting to life in Denver, Colorado. It had been a little ruff at first because I was a little scared of my new surroundings, additionally, I was not used to all the attention and love that I was receiving. But, I quickly found out how nice it is to be held, have my belly rubbed and my ears scratched, lay in the sunshine, roll around in the grass, look for dead wormies to roll around in, walk with my brothers, feel the grass on my low-belly and the flap of my ears when I run through the park, sleep in the big bed, eat warm meals, have all the bones I could ever want to chew, decide which dog bed will by mine for the day....the list just goes on and on and on... All the people I have met here in Colorado tell me how beautiful I am - they are so nice. They sometimes giggle at me, I think it is because I like to run up to them and say hello. I learned that there are truly nice people in this world full of love for little ones like me. Which brings me to my next point, I don't know how to ever say thank-you for being the first people to love me. You didn't even know me, yet you loved me enough to save me so that I could start this new awesome life! I still have my blankie that you gave me. I sleep in it almost every day. I will remember you always and want you to know that I am part of a family now and it is the best feeling ever! I never thought my life could be filled with this much happiness. I wish all my brothers and sisters in foster care will find homes just like mine! Ok, I have to go now; but, I was wondering if I qualify as one of your success stories to post on your webpage? If you need more pictures of me, please let me know. Love Always, Katie |
