THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Our Beloved Little Willie was a black and tan short hair mini Dachsie Guy. My son got Willie as a puppy. When Willie was 2 years old, Jason moved to an apartment and Willie needed to find a new home. Jason called me and asked me if I wanted Willie? Of course I did! The following weekend, I drove 19 hours and 1350 miles from Rapid City, SD to Phoenix, AZ to get Willie and make the return trip to Rapid City and Willie's new home. Willie soon became known to one and all as a "Drama Queen" because if he wanted something he would begin to whine and this would escalate into a ear shattering shriek until he got what he wanted! Willie developed chronic kidney failure in late 2007. We were told our Little Boy probably wouldn't be with us for Christmas. But, he not only got to open his Christmas Stocking, he helped Ring in the New Year and saw the beginning of Spring. We had been able to control the kidney failure with a strict diet of Specialized food, tons of chopped baby carrots, and sub Q fluids three times weekly. Then, on April 17, 2008 in less than 1 hour, Willie developed twisted stomach or "bloat" and began screaming from the terrible pain. We rushed him to the emergency Vet clinic where he had gone 3 times a week for iv fluids that helped control the kidney failure. When Dr Heidi explained what "twisted stomach or bloat" was; showed us the Xray was and explained that a healthy 2 year old only had a 30 to 40% chance of surviving the corrective surgery. Our Little Guy was 14.5 yrs with failing kidneys and in terrible pain. With tears flowing down our cheeks, we kept our last promise to Willie and held him in our arms as we helped him began his Journey to The Bridge. Willie, while you wait for Papa Russ and Daddy Bob, run and play with Gretchen I and II, Trina, Heidi, Fritz, Schotize, Leibshen and Lilla. You were Our Drama Queen and Our Best Little Boy!
